The hydrating balm · for very dry skin over 40

Dry skin over 40 doesn’t need more water.
It needs the right fats.

la truie is a handcrafted lipid balm made from four ingredients your skin barrier actually recognizes. It melts in, seals moisture in, and keeps skin soft for hours, not minutes.

Sound familiar?

Moisturizer feels good for an hour. Then your skin is tight again.

  • Flaking around the nose, brows and chin no matter what you use
  • Skin that is more sensitive and reactive than it used to be
  • Fine lines that look deeper by the end of the day
  • A drawer full of creams that never quite worked

After 40, skin makes fewer of the protective lipids that hold moisture in. Layering water based creams on top doesn’t fix that. Replacing the lipids does.

How it works

Three things happen when la truie meets your skin.

01

It melts in

Body heat turns a pea sized amount into a silky oil that spreads easily and sinks in instead of sitting on top.

02

It replenishes

Skin similar fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamins A, D, K and E feed a barrier that has stopped making enough of its own.

03

It seals

Beeswax forms a light, breathable layer that slows water loss for hours, so softness lasts through the day and overnight.

Softer by morning. Calmer within days. Noticeable results in days, not weeks.

The science behind it

Your skin already knows how to hold moisture. It just stopped making the lipids that do it. la truie puts them back.

Taryn, founder of la truie

A note from the founder

Why lard, and why only four ingredients.

I created la truie after an illness pushed me to question everything I put on and in my body. The skincare I was using was full of the very chemicals I was trying to avoid. The answer turned out to be old: a simple lard balm, the kind a mother and daughter once sold at a market in southern France.

la truie is French for “the sow,” a nod to the ingredient and the heritage behind it. Every jar is handcrafted with ingredients that work with your skin’s natural biology, not against it.

XOXO, Taryn

Our story

Good questions

Everything you might be wondering.

Why is porcine lard the main ingredient?

Lard has a fatty acid profile that closely resembles human sebum, the natural oil your skin produces. Because of that, it absorbs beautifully into the skin instead of simply sitting on top.

How is it different from tallow?

Beef tallow is richer in saturated fats and can feel heavier and waxier on the skin. Lard has a softer, more skin similar composition that tends to absorb more easily and feel lighter.

Can I use it on my face?

Yes. la truie was designed specifically for facial skin. Many customers also use it on the neck, chest, lips, under eyes, hands, elbows, cuticles and dry patches.

Will it clog pores?

Everyone’s skin is different, but most people find la truie surprisingly breathable because of how compatible it is with the skin’s own oils. If you have oily or combination skin, we don’t recommend it on the T zone.

Can I use it with retinol?

Yes. Apply your retinol as directed, then press a thin layer of la truie over it to lock in moisture while you sleep. Many customers say it helps them tolerate retinol without the usual dryness.

How much do I use?

A little goes a long way. Warm a pea sized amount between your fingertips and press into damp, freshly cleansed skin.
