For hormonal acne that never quite settles

Tried product after product for hormonal acne? The step you’re missing isn’t another treatment.

la truie is a moisturizer made with bio compatible lipids that closely resemble the natural oils in healthy skin. Your skin absorbs it instead of it sitting on top, so the barrier your treatments keep stripping can finally recover.

Sound familiar?

The loop is exhausting because every product only fixes half of it.

You treat the breakout. The treatment dries you out. Dry, irritated skin flares. So you buy the next thing, and the next. The one step almost nobody is told about is the skin barrier that keeps getting stripped in between.

  1. 01
    Treat. Benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, acids.
  2. 02
Dry out. Water loss through the skin rises. Tight, flaky, red.
  3. 03
Moisturize. A water based cream sits on top and is gone by lunch.
  4. 04
Flare. Irritated skin breaks out again, and the loop restarts.

The missing step

Acne prone skin has a weaker barrier to begin with. Then the treatments take more.

This is why “just moisturize” hasn’t worked. Most creams are mostly water. They feel good, then evaporate, and the barrier is no better off than before.

Acne skin loses more water

People with acne show higher water loss through the skin and lower ceramides, the fats that hold the barrier together. The worse the acne, the weaker the barrier.

Your treatment adds to it

Benzoyl peroxide raised water loss 1.8 times in testing. Tretinoin, adapalene and tazarotene all raise it too, with dryness and peeling for the first two to four weeks.

A real moisturizer changes the outcome

Applying a moisturizer prevented the rise in water loss during tretinoin therapy and eased the dryness, without any loss of the treatment’s effect.

You might still get the occasional breakout. But for the first time in years, your skin can feel healthy instead of constantly trying to recover.

Why these lipids, and not a cream

Acne prone sebum is short on one fat. Lard happens to carry it.

Studies of acne prone skin keep finding the same thing: sebum that is low in linoleic acid, the fatty acid your skin uses to build ceramides. Less linoleic acid, fewer ceramides, weaker barrier, more clogged pores. In one small placebo controlled trial, applying linoleic acid topically shrank microcomedones by about a quarter in a month.

We are not claiming la truie treats acne. We are saying its fats look like the ones your skin is missing, which is why it absorbs instead of sitting on top.

  • Water based cream Mostly water. Sits on the surface, evaporates in hours.
  • Beef tallow About 1% linoleic acid. Heavy and waxy on the face.
  • la truie (pasture raised lard) 6 to 10% linoleic acid, plus vitamins A, D, K and E. Melts in.

Beeswax seals it in. Rosemary and frankincense CO₂ calm and scent it. That is the whole ingredient list.

How it fits an acne routine

Keep your treatment. Add the step that lets your skin tolerate it.

01

Cleanse and treat as prescribed

Benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, tretinoin, whatever your dermatologist has you on. Nothing about that changes.

02

Press on a pea sized amount

Warm it between your fingertips and press into cheeks, jawline and chin while skin is still slightly damp. It melts to a thin, breathable layer.

03

Skip where you run oily

If your T zone is oily, leave it bare there. la truie is for the dry, tight, over treated areas, which for hormonal acne usually means the lower face.

Night is easiest. In the morning it works under sunscreen. A jar is 1.7 oz and a pea sized amount covers the whole lower face.

“As an older woman who has struggled for years with both adult acne and extremely dry skin, I avoided moisturizers completely. I rubbed a small amount between my fingers and patted it on. Within minutes it melted in and gave my skin a glow I haven’t seen since I was young. Five hours later my skin felt as soft as a baby’s.”

“If you have sensitive skin, you know the frustration of wanting powerful skincare but fearing the redness and irritation. Two months of daily use has strengthened my skin enough to tolerate my prescription retinol twice a day. My dermatologist says it’s the best my skin has looked in years.”

Straight answer

What la truie is, and what it isn’t.

It is

  • A moisturizer for dry, tight, over treated and reactive skin
  • Four ingredients, no fragrance, no fillers, no preservatives
  • Made to layer over retinoids and benzoyl peroxide at night
  • Something you will feel within days: softer, less tight after treatments

It isn’t

  • An acne treatment, or a reason to stop the one that is working
  • A replacement for your dermatologist’s plan
  • Made for oily T zones. Keep it to the dry, lower face if you run oily there
  • A promise that breakouts stop. Hormones are hormones

Good questions

Everything you would ask before putting fat on acne prone skin.

Won’t lard clog my pores?

Everyone’s skin is different, but most people find la truie surprisingly breathable because its fats are so close to the skin’s own oils. It absorbs rather than sitting on top. If you have oily or combination skin, keep it off the T zone and use it on the dry, lower face where hormonal acne tends to live.

Is this an acne treatment?

No. la truie is a moisturizer. It is designed to rebuild the barrier that acne treatments strip, so your skin can tolerate the routine that actually clears breakouts. Keep following your dermatologist’s plan.

Can I use it with benzoyl peroxide or a retinoid?

Yes. Apply your treatment as directed, wait a few minutes, then press a thin layer of la truie over it. Customers on prescription retinol tell us this is what let them stay on it without the peeling and redness.

How is lard different from tallow?

Beef tallow is richer in saturated fat and carries about 1% linoleic acid, so it feels heavier and waxier. Lard carries 6 to 10% linoleic acid, the fatty acid acne prone sebum tends to be short on, and has a softer, more skin similar composition that absorbs more easily.

Does it smell like pork?

No. The lard is rendered, food grade and odorless. What you notice is a soft herbal note from rosemary and a warm, resinous one from frankincense. No added fragrance.

I’m in my 20s or 30s. Is this only for older skin?

la truie was created for very dry skin over 40, but the barrier problem is the same at any age once you are on acne treatments. If your skin is tight, flaky or stinging after your routine, it is for you.

How much do I use?

A pea sized amount covers cheeks, jawline and chin. Warm it between your fingertips and press it into damp, freshly cleansed skin.
